Melvin Herman Dubbeldee

Funeral Services were held January 12, 2008 at 10:00 am at St. Dionysius Catholic Church in Tyler. Visitation was held 5-8pm Friday at the Tyler Area Funeral Home. Interment is in the St. Dionysius Catholic Cemetery in Tyler. The Tyler Area Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Melvin Herman Dubbeldee was born October 15, 1919 to Richard "Dick" and Ann Mary Sophia (Schreurs) Dubbeldee on a farmsite outside the small town of Arco, located in Marshfield Township, Lincoln County, Minnesota. He attended Lakeview School District # 59 just south of Dead Coon Lake, and graduated the top of his class. He was the only student in 8th grade.

Mel was united in marriage to Myrtle Grace Sharp on November 27, 1940 in Tyler, Minnesota. They farmed and fed cattle in rural Tyler. They retired from farming in 1979 and moved into the same house his parents had lived in at 351 Hughes Street in Tyler. He and Myrt lived there for 26 years, until moving into the Danebod Village in Tyler. Mel was a member of St. Dionysius Catholic Church in Tyler, the Knights of Columbus and the NFO. He was very active in church. He enjoyed playing cards, helping his son farm, shaking dice, square dancing, horses and machinery repair, occasionally inventing new equipment.

Melvin Dubbeldee passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at the Tyler Healthcare Center in Tyler, Minnesota at the age of 88 years, 2 months and 24 days.

He is survived by his wife Myrtle of Tyler; Children Ruth (Delton) Sanderson of Ruthton, Jane (Don) Stapley of Prescott Valley, AZ, Jean (Jerry) Anderson of Shiloh, Illinois, Lyle (Julie) Dubbeldee of Tyler and Janel (Jay) Stuefen of Lake Benton; 13 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren; his brother George (Bea) Dubbeldee of Marshall and sister Gladys (Ken) Stassen of Faribault. He is preceded in death by his parents and three brothers Edward, Lawrence and Raymond.
