Wilma Berg

Wilma L. Berg …78 of Tyler (formerly of Garvin) passed away on Sunday, June 14, 2009 at her home in Tyler, surrounded by her daughters.

Memorial Service will be held at First English Lutheran Church in Tyler at 11:00a.m. on Friday, June 19, 2009. Private family interment will be held at Opdal Cemetery in Florence.

Wilma Leota Berg was born July 1, 1930 on the family farm in Custer Township in Lyon County, Minnesota to Edmund and Bertha (Hatton) Wilking. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church and graduated from Garvin Public School. Wilma was united in marriage to Bernhard Berg on January 20, 1948 at First Congregational Church in Garvin. They lived on the family farm 5 miles east of Tyler for 50 years, where Wilma helped Bernhard, working on the farm. Following retirement, they moved to Tyler in September 1999, where she resided since. Bernhard and Wilma had been married for over 50 years before Bernhard passed away on March 15, 2002. She was very active in her church at Opdah Lutheran Church in Florence and later First English Lutheran Church in Tyler, where she participated in circle Bible study, Ladies Aid, and Do-Day.. She enjoyed watching football, especially the Minnesota Vikings, spending time and going out to eat with her good friend Lucille Ohl, She also enjoyed dancing and was an avid reader.

Wilma is survived by her daughters: Jeanne (Jerry) DeVries of Plainfield, IL and Janice Serreyn of Wichita, KS; Grandchildren: Todd, Corey, Justin and Lacy and Tammy, Jordan and Danielle; Great Grandchildren: Amanda, Austin & Shaun and Chase, Zachary & Ty; Brother: Lee (Roselyn) Wilking of Long Point, IL and many other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Bernhard and one brother Herman.
