Doris Elizabeth Volden
age 77 of Marshall, formerly of Cottonwood, passed away on Friday,
December 28, 2007 at Morningside Heights Nursing Home in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, January
3, 2008 at Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood. Visitation will
be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Christ Lutheran Church
with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue on Thursday
one hour prior to services at the church. Interment is in the Christ
Lutheran Church Cemetery. The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is handling
the arrangements.
Doris was born, along with her twin brother Dale, February 3, 1930
on the family farm in Underwood Township, Redwood County to Ernest
& Florence (Krug) Rust. She was baptized and confirmed at St.
John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta. She attended grade school
at District 44, and graduated from Echo High School in 1946. On
October 23, 1948, Doris was united in marriage to Harland Volden
at St. John’s Lutheran Church. She worked as a waitress at
Mike’s Café in Marshall for a short time before going
to work for Northstar Insurance where she was employed for 30 years.
Harland passed away July 25, 2000. Doris then moved into Fieldcrest
Assisted Living in Cottonwood, and later to the Morningside Heights
Nursing Home in Marshall where she’s resided since. Doris
was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Cottonwood for
many years. She loved her country and was very patriotic. She had
a great personality and enjoyed joking with the nurses at the care
center. Doris was known affectionately as “Tootsie”
by her friends and family, whom she greatly enjoyed visiting with.
Doris is survived by her sons: David Volden and wife Linda of Marshall
& Bradley Volden and wife Brenda of Temecula, CA; seven grandchildren:
Sarah (Joseph) Holt of Bemidji, Rachel Volden of Shreveport, LA,
Joe Rye of Eden Prairie, Maria Rye of Richfield, and Megan, Nicholas
& Michael Volden all of Temecula, CA; four great grandchildren:
Catherine & Marshal Holt and Maciah & Layla Volden; sister
Lois Renneke of Northfield; sister-in-law Ruth Rust of Vesta, and
numerous other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death are
her parents, husband Harland, twin brother Dale Rust and sister
Alice Lovald.
