Rolland J. Shemon age 81 of Redwood Falls, formerly of Seaforth, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at the Redwood Are

a Hospital while surrounded by family and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11am Monday, January 21st, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Redwood Falls. Visitation will be 4-8pm Sunday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday. Interment is in the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Seaforth. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. The Redwood Valley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Rolland J. Shemon was born September 10, 1926 to Steven and Theresa (Trost) Shemon on the family farm in Sheridan Township. He was baptized, received his 1st Communion, and was confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Seaforth. Rolland attended country school near Seaforth and later Wabasso Public School. He served in the U.S. Navy with the Seabees in Okinawa during WWII. After the service he returned to the Seaforth area, and was united in marriage to Bernice Bliss on June 15, 1948 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Together the couple lived and farmed near Seaforth. Rolland worked as a salesman for the John Deere Implement in Wabasso for nearly 30 years. After Rolland retired they later moved to Redwood Falls in 2004 where they have resided since. Rolland was a member of the Seaforth American Legion and Booster Club, and was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He recently became a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. Rolland enjoyed horses, playing cards, buying and selling farm equipment and going to auctions. He loved spending time with his family especially the grandchildren.

Rolland is survived by his wife Bernice of nearly 60 years; children: Kathleen (Douglas) Dahms of Redwood Falls, Michael (Kathy) Shemon of Maple Grove, Kim Shemon of Redwood Falls, and Ron Shemon of Clearwater; grandchildren: Cynthia (Chad) Dallenbach, Christina Westfield, Anthony (Jessica) Dahms, Angela (Jeff) Morris, Amanda, Rachel, and Madeline Shemon, Randy (Melissa) Knott, Jordan and Lyndsay Maserek, Lucas (Amanda) Shemon, and Joshua Shemon; 11 great-grandchildren; sister Thrasilla Nelson of Owatonna; sister-in-law Alice Shemon of Spicer; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons Steve and Daniel; brother Albert, and sisters Irene and Ursula.
