Marie Ringhand, age 100 of Belview, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Parkview Nursing Home in Belview. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Grace Lutheran Church in Belview. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Saturday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home in Redwood Falls with a 7:30 prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Sunday. Interment will be held in Duluth at a later date. Arrangements are with the Redwood Valley Funeral Home.

Marie (Schmidt) Ringhand was born August 4, 1907 in Marietta, Minnesota to Rev. William and Catherine (Arends) Schmidt. She was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marietta and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in West Duluth, Minnesota. She graduated from Denfeld High School, Duluth in 1924. Marie was united in marriage to Rev. Carl Ringhand on July 3, 1929 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in West Duluth. Together the couple served parishes in Britt, IA, Palmer, IA, Bellevue, IA, Superior, WI, Welcome, MN and lastly in Springfield, MN. Marie served as Administrator of St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield from 1958 to 1966. They spent 10 retirement years at Cass Lake with winters in Duluth. Carl passed away in 1976. Marie moved to Parkwood Apartments, Belview in 1995 and later became a resident of Parkview until her time of death.

Marie was a musician; serving as choir director and organist at all the parishes she and her husband ministered. She enjoyed picking berries, making jam, and baking rye bread. Marie especially enjoyed time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children: Duane (Ione) Ringhand of Anoka and Ruth Ann (Lloyd) Anderson of Echo; grandchildren: Robyn Jumer, Deanne Johnson, Laurie Seracki, Jeff, Mark, Tim and Joel Anderson; 12 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carl, sisters: Dora Besser, Hanna Ettesvold, Ruth Grassman, Amanda Burt and brother William Schmidt.
