Robert R. Palmer
Memorial Services will be held on Friday June
27th at 9:30am at the First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to services
at the church on Friday.
Robert R. Palmer age 87 of Redwood Falls passed
away on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 at Seasons Hospice in Redwood Falls.
Memorial services will be held on Friday June 27th at 9:30am at
the First United Methodist Church in Redwood Falls. Visitation will
be held one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Private
family burial will take place at the Redwood Falls Cemetery at a
later date. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. Arrangements
are with the Redwood Valley Funeral Home of Redwood Falls. Email

Robert Palmer was born Sept. 16, 1920 to H.E. and Mary E. (Horr)
Palmer in Crookston, MN. He attended schools at Litchfield, MN,
Sisseton, S.D., Breckenridge, MN, and graduated from Wadena, MN
in 1938. He attended the University of Minnesota prior to entering
the US Army in 1942. He was stationed briefly in Juneau, Alaska
until he was re-assigned to the 104th Inf. Reg’t
of the 26th Inf. Div. His unit was in the 3rd Army in Europe from
October 1942 until V-E Day. He returned to the University of Minnesota
and graduated from Civil Engineering in 1947. The next 4 years were
with the MN Dept. of Conservation (now D.N.R.) followed by 1 year
of construction of an air base at lncirlik, Turkey. Upon returning
to the US he worked for 4 years with the Al Johnson Construction
Company on construction. While working in Alabama, he met Hazel
Smith whom he married December 31, 1954. They lived in Minneapolis
until being transferred to a project near Port Lavaca, Texas. In
1957, he started working for Elk River Concrete Products and they
moved to Redwood Falls. Until his retirement in 1985, he was their
sales-representative in southwest Minnesota. Since 1985 he has worked
as a construction inspector on various projects for the Redwood
County Highway Department and for Bonestroo Rosene and Anderlik-
consulting engineers. Palmer was a Registered Professional Engineer,
a charter member of the Redwood Travelers Club, and worked with
the Redwood Area Development Corporation and the Minnesota Valley
Coalition for Kaolin. He was also a lay reader in St. Cornelia’s
Church for over 25 years. His bridge and golf games weren’t
too good, but his cribbage game was perfect.
Robert is survived by his wife Hazel of 53 years; sons: Mark of
Williston, VT, Thomas of Minneapolis, Stephen (Darcy) of White Bear
Lake, David (Christine) of rural Wabasso; 4 granddaughters: Hannah,
Bonnie, Emily, and Danielle; grandson James and cousin Marvin and
Mary Horr of Miami, AZ. He is preceded in death by his parents.
