Elvera Kahnke
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30
a.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the
services at the church.
Elvera Kahnke age 101 of Redwood Falls, formerly of Wabasso, passed
away Monday, June 16, 2008 at Sunwood Good Samaritan Care Center
in Redwood Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30
a.m. Wednesday at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Redwood Falls.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church.
Interment is in St. Catherine's Catholic Cemetery. Email condolences
may be sent via www.redwoodvalleyfuneralhome.com. The Redwood Valley
Funeral Home of Redwood Falls is handling the arrangements.
Elvera Kahnke was born February 14, 1907 on the family farm in
Vail Township, Redwood County, MN to Joseph and Emma (Fixsen) Johanneck.
She was baptized, received her First Communion and was confirmed
at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Wabasso. Elvera
graduated from Wabasso High School in 1926, she then attended teachers
training for 1 year. She was a school teacher for 8 years in country
schools teaching at St. Peter, Seaforth, Wabasso, and finished a
school term near Redwood Falls. Elvera was united in marriage to
Sylvester “Dutch†Kahnke on
June 26, 1934 at St. Anne’s Catholic Church.
Together the couple lived on a farm in Delhi Township near Redwood
Falls. Elvera was a homemaker the rest of her married life. Dutch
passed away March 20, 1980. Elvera then moved into Redwood Falls.
After moving to town, Elvera did volunteer work and helped take
care of relatives who were ill. Elvera became a resident of Sunwood
Good Samaritan Care Center in 2004 where she has resided since.
She was a member of St. Catherine’s Catholic
Church in Redwood Falls and formerly of St. Anne’s
Catholic Church in Wabasso. She was active serving as President
and Vice President of the Alter Society or CCW. She also served
on the Mission Club. Evera enjoyed helping others with quilting,
doing crossword puzzles, writing letters and playing cards. She
also enjoyed having a garden and flowers.
Elvera is survived by her brother Lenus (Marie) Johanneck of Wabasso;
sister Elaine Watson of California; sister- in-law Veronica Johanneck
of Wabasso; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death
by her parents, husband Sylvester, brothers Gerald and Norbert Johanneck,
and sister Erma Saldin.
