Arleen Huhnerkoch
Arleen Huhnerkoch, age 89 of Belview passed away Wednesday, May
13, 2009 at Parkview Home in Belview.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday,
May 18 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta.
Visitation will be held 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.
Sunday at the Redwood Valley Funeral Home with a 6:30 p.m. prayer
service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services
at the church on Monday. Interment is in St. John’s Lutheran
Cemetery in Sheridan Township. In lieu of flowers, memorials are
preferred to Redwood Area Hospice. The Redwood Valley Funeral Home
is in charge of arrangements.
Arleen Pearl (Mell) Huhnerkoch was born August 26, 1919 in Paxton
Township, Redwood County, to August and Emma (Keil) Mell. She attended
country school District 107 in Redwood County through the 8th grade.
Arleen married Orville Huhnerkoch on September 17, 1939 at St. John’s
Lutheran Church parsonage in Sheridan Township. They lived their
entire married life in Kintire Township near Belview. Arleen was
a member of St. John’s until its closing in 2006, then joined
St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vesta. She was active in her
church, the Ladies’ Aid, and providing flowers for the altar
all summer for many years. Arleen was known for her beautiful flower
gardens. She was a very talented and loving mother, grandmother,
and great-grandmother. Her husband passed away in 1993 and Arleen
stayed on the farm until 1999 when she moved to her apartment at
Parkview in Belview.
She is survived by her children: Florence Berquist of Hinckley,
Lois (and Dean) Sather of Madison, Elaine (and Sherwood) Knutson
of Canby, Dorothy (and Robert) Markling of Cold Spring, Robert (and
Vickie) Huhnerkoch of Glenwood, and Janet (and Allen) Saunders of
Benson; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren: David Berquist;
Brenda (Aaron) Fischer, Ben, Quinn, and Riley; Sarah (Dustin) McCune,
Brooke and Blaine; Mark (Angie) Berquist and Sam; Beth (Tim) Hatch,
Isaac, Caleb, and Emma; Jodi Sather, Logan and Sam Tykwinski; Ryan
(Melissa) Sather, Grace and Jana; John (Angela) Sather, Alexandra,
Zeke, Amos and Gabriel; Mike (Brenda) Knutson and Kendon; Pete Knudson;
Andy (Angie) Knutson, Ben and Kyla; Melanie (Sean) Huet and Elsa;
Meredith (Dan) Weniger and Max; Matt (Becky) Huhnerkoch and Henry;
Brian (Jessie) Huhnerkoch; Jeff Huhnerkoch; Lauren Saunders; and
Kelly Saunders. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Pearl Huhnerkoch
and Darlene Hennagir. She was preceded in death by her parents;
husband Orville; granddaughter Maria Knutson; son-in-law Jim Berquist;
and three brothers: Walter Mell, Norbert Mell, and Karl Mell.
